Gee Creek Farm - New exchange program to be tried at the farm this year.

Every living thing changes and grows and this also goes for organic farms! We are excitedly looking forward to our second year of offering a CSA farm share program. We are making some adjustments to how we plan and allocate the shares being offered to our members. We asked for and received feedback on how our farm share program was working for our members. In response to the comments we received we have developed some changes to the mix and quantity of the vegetables we grow for the weekly shares.

For example we heard that although most enjoyed the wide variety of vegetables they received, many did not have as much use for the greens while others did not like some other veggie they received. We asked other CSA operators how they deal with such requests and many said they offer a limited exchange program. In essence, farm share holders get to exchange two items they receive in their boxes for two other items. So for example, if someone does not want kale that week, they could exchange one bunch of kale for an extra weekly portion of green beans, etc. This will require some extra picking for us and hopefully we will not end up with too much waste but we hope that some things will even out and most importantly, that our share distributions will better meet the needs of our members.
